It goes back to the 1960s. 1966, to be precise, when President Lyndon Johnson of the USA announced that the 3rd Sunday of every June will be dedicated to honor American dads. American or not, whether its dad or papa (more common for most of us here in India)- we all recognize that our fathers have played a big role in our lives. Shaped who we are today, and where we are today. So late President Johnson- your foreign policies for Vietnam were less than exemplary- but you did a good thing by instituting the tradition of Father's day.
